Corte Martini A deep passion for the land and viticulture led the family in the 1970s to settle on a small estate with a farmhouse dating back to 1601, located in the “I Martini” area of Torbe di Negrar, at the heart of Valpolicella Classica. From this point began a dedicated agricultural journey rooted in traditional practices, among historic marogne and alzari. Once part of the Villa Salvaterra di Prun estate, the property has long focused primarily on viticulture, alongside the cultivation of olives and cherries in accordance with long-established local traditions. In the historic “I Martini” cellar, characterised by arches in Pietra di Prun, high-quality wines were already being produced in wooden barrels as early as 1908. Today, the estate continues this legacy, preserving tradition while ensuring continuity for future generations. Corti Benedettine Viticulture in this area dates back to Roman times, as documented by Pliny the Elder in Naturalis Historia, where he describes the distinctive character of grapes grown in the marshlands surrounding Padua. Despite frequent flooding from the Adige and Retrone rivers, centuries of alluvial deposits enriched the soils, making them particularly fertile and highly valued. From the 9th century onward, Benedictine monasteries played a central role in shaping the landscape through extensive land reclamation and water management works. Their efforts transformed the territory into a well-drained and productive agricultural system, organised into large estates where wine became the second most important crop after wheat. Following the Napoleonic suppression of monastic orders, these lands passed into private ownership, leading to further agricultural development and the introduction of international grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet, and Chardonnay, which proved well suited to the area. Today, this centuries-old viticultural tradition continues through the commitment of private and cooperative wineries, combining historical knowledge with modern agronomic and winemaking practices. Vicentini Agostino Cantina Agostino Vicentini is the result of four generations of family dedication to viticulture. The estate’s history began in 1929, when Francesco Vicentini acquired vineyards in Colognola ai Colli, laying the foundations for a philosophy rooted in respect for the land and quality-driven farming. In the late 1960s, Agostino Vicentini marked a turning point by transforming his vineyard and cellar expertise into a focused wine production, giving rise to labels that would become emblematic of the estate. Over time, the winery refined a clear and consistent style, particularly through its Valpolicella and Soave wines. Today, with the support of Teresa Bacco and the involvement of the fourth generation, Emanuele and Francesca Vicentini, the estate continues to combine tradition and innovation, promoting Agostino Vicentini wines internationally.
